Follow the prompt.
Seem obvious? It might be. But you’d be surprised at how many essays I read every application cycle that do not adhere to the prompt.
That doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice any of your messaging, however.
The first thing I recommend my clients do is write out a list of all the things they want to make sure they cover in their personal statement.
Then, I have them come up with 1-2 themes that these topics cover. From there, you’ll want to figure out your themes - your story fit with the prompt at hand.
